Hood Museum Welcomes Five New Board Members

The Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth, is delighted to announce the appointment of five new members to the Hood Museum Board of Advisors for three-year terms: Robert J. Grey P'02 GRP'07, Ann M. Huebner '89, John Parker Jr. '89 T'94 P'21, Karen Miller Nearburg, and Katherine Stone Sonnenborn '00.

The museum relies on its board for counsel and support and looks forward to the contributions of this diverse and accomplished group. John Stomberg, the Virginia Rice Kelsey 1961s Director of the Hood Museum, said, "The Hood Museum has long benefitted from the deep engagement of our Board members. We are particularly eager to welcome our newest members who will be a new host of skills and experiences to bear on the challenges facing the Museum in the coming years"

Robert J. Grey P'02 GRP'07 (Allentown, PA) 
Bob is currently a partner at K&L Gates, L.L.P.  Prior to joining K&L Gates, Bob was the executive vice president, chief legal officer, and general counsel of PPL Corporation, one of the largest investor-owned companies in the U.S. utility sector. Previously, Bob was general counsel for Long Island Lighting Co. Prior to that, he had been a partner with the law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis (now K&L Gates) in Seattle and Portland. His experience also includes several years as a staff counsel for the New York Public Service Commission, and he served as an attorney for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Bob's interests include collecting contemporary photography.

Ann M. Huebner '89 (Lexington, VA) 
Ann Huebner has spent the last 16 years living in rural Virginia, where she has been a teacher, farmer, and food photographer. She is particularly concerned with the lack of accessibility rural populations have to museums. Before moving to Virginia, she taught fifth and sixth grade in Connecticut and did pro-bono college counseling at an inner-city high school. Ann graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth with a degree in comparative religion. She received a Keasbey Scholarship and spent two years studying Sanskrit and Pali at Oxford University. She is married to Ross Waller '89 and has three children.

Karen Miller Nearburg (Dallas, TX)
Karen earned her BA in Fine Arts and Child Development from Tufts University, her EdM from Harvard University, and her MA in Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park. She spent fifteen years in Alaska and wrote her master's thesis on the work of contemporary Inupiaq sculptor Susie Qimmiqsak Bevins. Since then, Karen has worked in galleries and museums and served as assistant curator for special projects at the Hood Museum where she curated Contemporary Native American Ledger Art: Drawing on Tradition, and coordinated Native American Ledger Drawing from the Hood Museum of Art: The Mark Lansburgh Collection. While in this role, she oversaw Native American Art at Dartmouth: Highlights from the Hood Museum of Art on view from Oct. 2011–Mar. 2012. Additionally, in 2008–2009, she served as project manager of the Hood's Felix de la Concha: Private Portraits/Public Conversations. More recently, she curated Dwayne Wilcox: Visual/Language at the Institute of American Indian Art's Museum of Contemporary Art, among other exhibitions. Since they met at Dartmouth in 2009, she and Dwayne have collaborated on a book project which will culminate in the 2021 publication of Visual/Language: The Ledger Drawing of Dwayne Wilcox.

John Parker Jr. '89 T'94 P'21 (Sudbury, MA)
John graduated from Dartmouth with the Class of 1989, received his AB in Art History with high honors, and then earned his MBA from Tuck in 1994. John is currently Managing Director of Springhood Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm backing companies addressing critical health needs of children. Previously, John spent 25 years in the alternative investment industry, including senior roles in venture capital, private equity, and hedge funds. Early in his career he worked in international merchant banking and consulting. Although currently living in the Boston area with his wife and their three children, John spent portions of his career in New York, Tokyo and Sydney and has done business in over 20 countries on 6 continents. John also serves as a trustee of the Charles H. Hood Foundation, which has supported child health research at leading institutions across New England since 1942. On the Hood Museum of Art Board of Advisors, John will serve as the representative to the Hood family and their legacy of philanthropy at Dartmouth. John is the son of Olivia Hood Parker and John O. Parker '58, the grandson of Harvey P. Hood '18, and nephew of Charles H. Hood '51. 

Katherine Stone Sonnenborn '00 (New York, NY) 
Katie Sonnenborn is co-director of Skowhegan. Since joining in 2012, she has set strategic goals to ensure Skowhegan can be uncompromising in its support for emerging visual artists today and in the future. Partnering closely with the board and staff, she has overseen a period of organizational growth and transformation including a strategic plan, the acquisition of a permanent New York City space, a holistic campus Master Plan, and the first book on Skowhegan's history and impact (forthcoming). Previously, Katie was Director of External Affairs at Dia Art Foundation, a multifaceted role which included leading preservation efforts for iconic land artworks in the American West. She has honors degrees in art history from Dartmouth College (BA) and the Courtauld Institute of Art, London (MA).
