We are expanding our fantastic team of volunteer docent educators.

If you enjoy learning about art and you want to connect with the community and inspire others, consider joining the team!
In addition to teaching adult and school groups, docents get the inside scoop on Hood Museum exhibitions, one-on-one time with exhibition curators, and behind-the-scenes experiences. Docents meet regularly on Monday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 am for training and are also required to be available one other day per week from September through May to lead tours in the museum.
There are no fixed qualifications for becoming a docent. Previous knowledge of and experience with art history, studio art, teaching, or public speaking are desirable but not mandatory. Our current docents have had experience in the classroom, in special education, or as journalists, editors, and artists. Most important are a love and enthusiasm for art, excellent listening and people skills, flexibility, an openness and willingness to learn and try new things, the ability to meet the significant time commitment, and a capacity to communicate and work well with a diverse range of people in a team environment.
