German-born artist Gustave Baumann created this work while living among artists working in Nashville, Indiana. The Ridge Road portrays a winding dirt road vanishing into a forest of pinks and purples, likely the eastern redbud tree. Enamored by Indiana’s natural beauty, Baumann lived and worked in the region for six years before later relocating to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

To create this impressive color print, Baumann carved a design for each of the six colors into separate wooden blocks. He then added the ink to each block and printed each color separately, perfectly aligning each block.
