Drawings were an essential element of studio and workshop practice for sculptors, just as they were for artists in other media. Sketches might be made from live models, but antique sculpture and plaster casts were also essential tools for artists practicing their skills or developing compositions. This drawing demonstrates the way in which ideas might layer upon a page, with a more clearly defined figure wearing garments that suggest antique armor and a toga standing on a loosely drawn frame.
