Warren Sherk, Associate Director, Special Collections and Photograph Archive at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Library, Beverly Hills

John Kobal’s lifelong obsession with collecting Hollywood portraiture serves as a springboard to examine the who, what, and why of individual collectors of film history. Foundational stories and images from the Academy Collection will offer a window into the collection of Kevin Brownlow on silent film as well as landmark collections on subjects such as American movie theaters, pre-cinema history and devices, cinema sheet music, and Westerns. Finally, the lecture will close with selected items related to Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Film Society.
