The artist; sold to Ruth Moskin Gallery, 15 East 91st Street, New York, New York, date unknown; sold to Daisy Viertel Shapiro (1890-1984), New York, date unknown; given to present collection, 1960, in memory of her son, First Lieutenant Richard David Shapiro (1921-1944), Class of 1943, who died on December 20, 1944 (his 23rd birthday) in the Battle of Leyte, Philippines.
