Inscriptions

Verso: Upper left, in graphite, "JKFA 1336" and, stamped in blue ink, "The Property of June Bass" / Upper center, stamped in purple ink, "Credit will be appreciated Paramount Photo by William Walling" and, stamped in blue ink, "Feb 1939" / Lower center, typed in black ink on tan paper, affixed, "PINK ORGANDY - makes a ravishing foundation garment for Madeleine Carroll in Paramount's 'Cafe Society'. Designed by Edith Head , this ultra-feminine camisole and petticoat combination is used as a foundation for fifteen striking and romantic evening gowns. Lace-edged ruffles, black velvet ribbon insertions and a fitted, boned camisole bodice make the foundation garment beautiful enough to be worn as an evening gown. But in 'Cafe Society' Miss Carroll's extensive wardrobe doesn't make such a thing necessary."

Provenance
