The deep connection between these two men is expressed through their body language and obvious comfort with each other in their old age. In these photos, physical touch creates a sense of belonging and wholeness between the subjects as they affirm one another’s presence. Even though one of the men is naked while the other is clothed, their relationship feels very natural.

The two men are artist Paul Cadmus (clothed) and his long-time lover and muse, Jon Anderson. Known for his erotic nudes of young men, Cadmus finds himself part of a more vulnerable sexuality in these raw depictions of the artist and his lover. Jon Gilbert Fox plays with the fact that Anderson was often the subject of Cadmus’s works by featuring Anderson nude in these photos, which demonstrate the bond the two men built through art.
