About the Panelists

Karin Bravin ’86 opened a gallery with her husband, John Lee, in Soho in 1991. In 2006, expanding upon the conventional gallery, they opened BravinLee programs in Chelsea to exhibit artists and collaborate with colleagues and institutions on a project-by-project basis. In addition to gallery exhibitions, BravinLee curates several offsite shows and public art installations, produces limited-edition rugs and sculptural editions, and privileges the medium of the artist book through a dedicated program. Karin is currently on the arts advisory committee for the Stirner Arts Trail in Easton, Pennsylvania, and is a curator for the Public Arts Commission of Lewes, Delaware. She developed a strong interest in site-specific and public art projects in 2006 when she curated and produced eleven installations in Manhattan’s Riverside Park. From 2009 to 2012, she was the consultant for the Downtown Alliance, where she selected and oversaw ten art projects on construction barriers in lower Manhattan. This fall, BravinLee is launching an online platform including a national network that will streamline and facilitate the donation of art to museums and healthcare 501C3 organizations.

Hugh Freund ‘67 is of counsel at the law firm of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he specializes in real estate law, art law, estate planning and general personal representation, and business/investment law. His art law practice includes the representation of private and public art galleries, dealers in both the primary and secondary art markets, visual artists and collectors, and commercial real estate developers for agreements for large-scale indoor and outdoor sculpture commissions. Hugh has previously served two terms on the Hopkins Center and Hood Museum of Art Board of Advisors. He enjoys collecting paintings, drawings, sculpture, and photography by young contemporary artists and has a collection of Amish quilts. He has donated a number of pieces of art to the Hood and is a member of the Lathrop and Bentley Fellows.
