The subject’s direct gaze draws the viewer in immediately. It seems as though Collin is about to disrobe to get into the bathtub nearby, the slippage of the towel already revealing more than we might expect. Yet, his eye contact and relaxed facial expression make the scene intimate rather than voyeuristic. Immersed in a deep red interior with a towel held precariously at his waist, he projects sensuality.

Whether in photos of couples or portraits, Dugan evokes strong emotion through the gaze of their subjects. In this photo, Collin’s relaxed demeanor demonstrates Dugan’s affection for those whom they photograph and offers the viewer a chance to feel this connection.
