Signed and inscribed, on reverse, bottom edge, in black ink: COLLIN AT SUNSET, 2020 EDITION 3/20 JESS T. DUGAN Jess Dugan
Resting comfortably in a field lush with periwinkles, Collin looks out at the viewer with heavily lidded eyes. He appears relaxed, his hands behind his head, the blue of his T-shirt associating him with the bed of flowers. This portrait of Collin interrogates hypermasculine depictions of Black men—his languid posture and expression relate him to nature, fragility, and a sense of peace, allowing him the space to be unthreatened and unthreatening.
