The Hood Museum has appointed Lauren Silverson as its registrar; she joined the museum's staff in September 2019.
Lauren Silverson, who has over twenty-five years in the field of collections management, most recently served as the Registrar at the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine, where she had worked since 2002. Previously, she held the position of Associate Registrar at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. She has contributed to the collections management profession through her involvement with the Registrars' Committee of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and served as chair of the Ethics Committee, a task force of the Registrars' Committee, from 2002 until 2012. "The Hood is honored to have Lauren Silverson join our staff," stated John Stomberg, Virginia Rice Kelsey 1961s Director. "She brings decades of experience combined with a dynamic curiosity and willingness to pursue the latest best practices in the field. Lauren will take a leadership position in the planning and execution of the exhibitions and collections stewardship at the heart of the Hood Museum's operations. We could not be happier with her as our new registrar and look forward to the many meaningful contributions she will make."
Silverson will join a strong team and is excited to be working at an academic museum that has recently reopened its doors after a big renovation and expansion project. "The Hood Museum has been on my radar since their reopening, not only because they have a great new building, but because I had heard about their remarkable collections, which the curators use to present a lively dialogue between culturally diverse works.
