Hood Museum of Art Docent Program

Museum docents are community members who serve on a volunteer basis and provide tours of the museum’s collections and special exhibitions to visiting groups of all ages, ranging from first graders to adults. They also help staff programs such as Family Days and museum-wide events. Our docents are a diverse, talented group of enthusiastic supporters of the arts.

All docents are trained to work with the permanent collection, the Orozco fresco, and special exhibitions. Participation in the Docent Program requires a substantial commitment of time and energy on the part of volunteers, but it is tremendously rewarding. Training sessions provide an opportunity for docents to meet curators and other museum staff, to learn a great deal about art and teaching techniques, and to become familiar with the full workings of the museum.
