In June 2006 the Hood organized a hair drive for Dartmouth students in Berry
Library's Novack Café. More than 150 students donated hair clippings and
received free haircuts provided by their peers. They also gave feedback
and participated in interviews.

A community hair drive was held in July 2006. The event, featuring free
haircuts by professional stylists, took place in Baker Library's main corridor,
where Wenda Gu's 13' x 40' panels will be installed.

By August 2006 more than 430 pounds of hair had been collected as the result of
approximately 42,500 hair cuts. The hair was packed up by Hood preparators and
shipped to Wenda Gu's studio in Shanghai.
In the spring of 2006 Hood Museum of Art staff members began collecting hair clippings from participating salons in the Upper Valley. They also organized two hair drives to educate Dartmouth students and the community about the project and collect additional hair clippings and feedback.
