Noted American Impressionist Willard Metcalf (1858-1925), painted some of his most acclaimed landscapes—many of them set in winter—during visits to Cornish and Plainfield, New Hampshire. Ranging from intimate woodland interiors to lyrical images of snow-covered hills, these works reinforced turn-of-the-century conceptions of an idyllic New England, even in its coldest season. Accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue, this exhibition comprises sixteen New Hampshire paintings drawn from museum and private collections nationwide.
