A Congo Chronicle

This exhibition of approximately sixty paintings chronicles the development of contemporary urban art in central Africa with a focus on Tshibumba Kanda-Matulu, an influential Congolese folk artist of the 1970s. Born largely of the 1950s Congolese independence movement led by Patrice Lumumba, the paintings narrate social and political events that resonate in central African political struggles to this day.
