Looking to Write, Writing to Look
September 18, 1-3 pm
Works of art can be great inspiration for creative writing and writing about a work of art can help us see it more clearly. Through simple, playful writing activities, we'll create some artistic poetry and prose inspired by works of art in the museum's collection. In the studio, we'll make a hand-made book for our writing masterpieces. For children ages 6 to 12 and their adult companions. Participation is limited. Please call (603) 646-1469 by September 14 to register.
Shaped Canvases
November 7, 12-5 pm
Rectangles, triangles, and zigzag strips. Bold colors. These are the building blocks of Frank Stella's irregularly shaped canvases, each named for a town in New Hampshire. On this special day for families, written guides and activities will help adults and children look together and learn about these innovative paintings. In the studio, participants will be invited to create a "shaped canvas" of their own. For children ages 6-12 and their adult companions. No pre-registration is required.
Family programs are offered free of charge thanks to generous support from the Hood Museum of Art Membership Program. Please consider becoming a member by calling (603) 646-2808 or emailing hoodmembership@dartmouth.edu.
