Museum docents are community members who serve on a volunteer basis and provide tours of the museum's collections and special exhibitions to visiting groups of all ages, ranging from first graders to adults. They also help staff with other programs such as Family Days and museum-wide events. All docents are trained to work with the permanent collection, the Orozco frescoes, and special exhibitions.
Participation in the Docent Program requires a substantial commitment of time and energy on the part of volunteers, but it is tremendously rewarding. The docents currently enrolled in the program are a diverse, talented and interesting group of individuals. Enthusiastic supporters of the arts, they have in common a love for art, a desire to share their knowledge with others, and additional interests. Training sessions provide an opportunity for docents to meet curators and other museum staff, learn a great deal about art and teaching techniques, and become familiar with the full workings of the museum.
The museum will begin training a new group of docents on February 1, 2012. To learn more about the program and application proces, click here.
