Children and Families

See the Calendar of Events for a current listing of family programs taking place at the Hood.

"Family Days are fun for the whole family—they’re educational and yet entertaining!"

"It's a relaxing, interesting way to spend time together as a family while exposing our children to art and creativity."

Family Days

Offered on selected Sundays, Family Days provide an opportunity for parents and children to explore works of art in the museum together, create their own art project, and attend related demonstrations and performances. Thematic self-guiding materials allow parents and children to experience the museum through viewing and sketching activities, stories, puzzles, and games. Family Days are designed for children ages 6-12. The museum requests that one adult accompany every two children.

ArtVentures

ArtVentures are guided, interactive tours of the Hood Museum of Art for children age 8 or older. Lively discussions, hands-on activities, and creative projects engage children in the exciting exploration of works of art. ArtVentures take place on the first Saturday of each month, October through May, from 10:00 to 11:30. Participation is limited to twenty children on a pre-registration basis. Only children age 8 and older are eligible to participate. To preregister, contact the Education Department at (603) 646-1469.
