Dartmouth College has a distinguished collection of works of public art throughout its campus. Works that grace the campus grounds include Ellsworth Kelly's Dartmouth Panels—a major site-specific piece consisting of five monochromatic aluminum panels, each painted in a single block of radiant color—that were designed for the east façade of the Hopkins Center's Spaulding Auditorium, facing the new Black Family Visual Arts Center. Unveiled in September 2012, Dartmouth Panels joins works by such internationally recognized artists as Mark di Suvero, Allan C. Houser, Beverly Pepper, George Rickey, Richard Serra, and Joel Shapiro that have enriched the environment in which we live, work, or study, and have played a vital role in exposing Dartmouth students, faculty, and the wider community to a diverse range of contemporary art. In addition, the museum oversees the remarkable fresco mural cycle by José Clemente Orozco titled The Epic of American Civilization, which the noted Mexican modernist artist painted in the Baker Library from 1932 to 1934.
The works include the following:
Louise Bourgeois, Crouching Spider
Allan C. Houser, Peaceful Serenity
Ellsworth Kelly, Dartmouth Panels
George Lundeen, Robert Frost (1874–1963), Class of 1896
Keith Moskow and Robert Linn, Ice Chimes
Richard Nonas, Telemark Shortline
