The Hood’s collection of almost one hundred objects made by indigenous Australians dates mostly from the twentieth century and includes a selection of bullroarers, spears and spear throwers, boomerangs, throwing sticks, hafted knives, and carrying dishes (coolimon) and baskets from the various regions of the continent. While most of these objects came into the museum’s collections by purchase, some were also given by Kenneth and Sara Hale in memory of Robert Locke Hale, Dartmouth Class of 1931, and Floyd Orlin Hale, Class of 1903.
