Ever wonder how art ends up in a museum? Want to help select new art for the Hood Museum of Art's collection?
Would you like to go to New York City?
Join us for Museum Collecting 101!
Upcoming Monday evenings from 4:00 to 5:30. Planned dates are January 13, January 20, and January 27. A fourth session is to be announced.
After hours and behind-the-scenes at the Hood Museum of Art.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE:
The opportunity to meet with a curator and other staff and be introduced to the museum's photography collection. You will discuss the criteria curators use to select works of art for a museum collection, review the work of several contemporary photographers, and decide which artist's work the Hood should purchase.
This year we will be taking a trip to New York City to visit with photography dealers to choose a work of art for the Hood's collection. All transportation and hotel costs are covered! In order to qualify for the trip, you must come to all three scheduled sessions and be available for the trip itself on Saturday, February 1, and Sunday, February 2.
THE TYPE OF ART:
This program will focus on modern and contemporary photographers.
TO SIGN UP:
For Dartmouth students only. FREE. No previous art knowledge or experience necessary. All majors are welcome.
FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED! Blitz "LOOK at the Hood" and tell us your name, year, major, and (briefly) why you would like to participate. Space is limited and participation at all three scheduled sessions is required. Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in a Museum Collecting 101 program at the Hood.
The deadline for registration is Friday, January 10, by 12:00 pm.
